I just jumped up from my desk
As I heard a strange clacking sound
Seemed like heavy rain drops
But it was the walkers going past
Click, click, tap, tap, click
Their poles hit the street.
Every Wednesday we see them
As they stride out together
Five female friends
On a weekly adventure
They never miss
They think of it all the time.
The poles give them strength
Their walk unites them in rhythm
Their longed-for escape
From the noise and nonsense of their lives
I hear their faint chattering now
As they disappear from my view.
the noise of their poles a symbol of the seperating from the noise of their lives....nice. like how you took a simple moment and gave it meaning. nice one shot
ReplyDeleteAwww! I can see them all making their way down the street, chattering away, taking their time, leaning on the walkers and enjoying themselves.
ReplyDeleteI love the image of you jumping up from your desk to experience with the walkers an escape from your routine, as well. I kept seeing the colour red... go figure...
ReplyDeleteWell done.
Libby, I hadn't noticed that you posted this for oneshotwed. I have only made it through about half of the poets listed. I'm so proud of you that you realized this. It accomplishes that rhythmic poetic thing and shows the images and the reactions to that image. Well done, you! Gay
ReplyDeleteThe poet has words, the walkers have poles. Both make a kind of music. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteseems to hold a longing note
ReplyDeletenicely written
Thought of a group of blind women friends who look forward to walking together, sensing their way together with multiple taps of walking sticks. Happy One Shot!
ReplyDeleteMy Gran used to be part of a group like this. Thanks for the memories :)
ReplyDeleteAw, how neat is that. Nicely portrayed! Sometimes the most poetic scenes are also the most prosaic; it's the seeing that makes the difference. :-)
ReplyDeletevery well written libby,love it..:)
